Counseling for Kids

You love your kid - there is no denying that. You’re doing your absolute best, but sometimes it’s as though no matter what you do, things result in tears and screams - sometimes it’s your kid, sometimes it’s you.

And what's causing these tears or screams? Perhaps it's the...

  • Anxiousness causing sleepless nights

  • Severe feelings of sadness causing lack of motivation

  • Feelings of failure because of the inability to focus in school

  • Challenges on navigating peer relationships or mistreatment

  • Insecurities due to body changes or identity

  • Continuous confrontations with family

  • High expectations on oneself

You know your child has so much to offer. You just wish they were more at peace, perhaps even... happier. This is where I can help! I genuinely believe there is no such thing as a “bad kid.” Sometimes children are just misunderstood or lack the skills to be successful at school or at home.

As a former teacher, current educator, licensed counselor and mom, I am all too familiar with the everyday struggles kids and parents face. But I am also confident that your child can overcome their challenges! I want your life to be more peaceful. More importantly, I want your child to enjoy their childhood and have the skills to express themselves to be better understood.

What Will Counseling Look Like for My Child?

There is no cookie cutter recipe when it comes to counseling. However, with each case parents/guardians are always included!

The first session is held with the parents only for 1.5 hoursIt is important for me to understand the family dynamics, feedback you have received from school (when pertinent), as well as your goals for your child. You and I will have follow-up sessions separate from your child's sessions, as needed, to consult and collaborate towards your child's goals. When appropriate, parents and caregivers may also be invited to participate in a session with their child.

Pending on the child's age, developmental level, interests and concerns - various modalities are used to keep your child engaged in making progress toward the goals we create together. A mix of play therapy, sand tray, literature, art and the use of games are used with children age 3 to young adulthood - in individual and group settings.
